When the Korean War ended, James P. Smith went to work for Reuben Lott.
James would run routes and deliver furniture to customers around the Meridian and Laurel areas of Mississippi.
He quickly fell in love with the furniture business, and in the early sixties, James moved his family to Jackson, MS to operate Lott Furniture on Capitol Street.
He eventually purchased the store from Mr. Lott, and from there, James - alongside his wife, Barbara - started a family legacy in the furniture industry.
Their young son Allan had begun following his father around and learning all the duties that were demanded for the store to be successful.
